VISITORS TO CANADA MEDICAL INSURANCE

Visitors to Canada are not covered under government health plans while in Canada. Canada has excellent health care, but it is expensive.

We recommend a "Visitors to Canada" emergency medical policy. This policy will provide coverage for accident and sickness. There is a choice of coverage limits up to $300,000.00. You should purchase a minimum limit of $50,000.00.

Emergency treatment resulting from a pre-existing condition can be covered if the condition meets a specified stability period. This time period is normally 120 or 180 days and is the period of time before the start of the policy. It is possible to cover pre-existing conditions up to age 85 (see 21st Century Travel).

When you purchase coverage before arrival there is no waiting period for coverage. Should you take coverage out after arrival, there will be a waiting period for sickness coverage only of either 48 hours, 72 hours or 7 days. This varies with each insurance company and varies with how long after arrival you purchase coverage.
